Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Chapter 7
On we go:
Chapter 7: The Will of Albus Dumbledore
So… what the hell, right? It’s nice to see Ron get the Put-Outer from chapter 1 of book 1, but everything else is so far a delightful mystery. Rachel and I have a few theories about “I open at the close,” but nothing particularly clever. Maybe they all have to be used in conjunction somehow? Rachel is positive that Harry will eventually end up with Fawkes, so we were surprised that wasn’t in the will.
Scrimgeour has turned out to be a right bastard. We’re wondering whether the bequest of Gryffindor’s sword was meant to actually try to get the sword to Harry, or if Dumbledore knew it wouldn’t be allowed but included it in his will anyway to send a message. Maybe the sword is the sixth Horcrux? Maybe Harry is to use the sword to kill Voldemort? That seems a little obvious.
The “mokeskin bag” seems pretty cool, and it’s obviously going to be important, as Harry’s wearing it on the cover.
I do like to see the romantic angst continuing. Poor Harry; poor Ginny. Wish he could take her with them. Rachel thinks Tonks is pregnant.
These last couple chapters, despite my nit-picking about some of the logic of the plot, have been really engrossing. (Maybe you can tell by the pace at which we’re reading them?) We are definitely sucked in.
No spoilers for later chapters in the comments!

I expect Fawkes to swoop in unexpectedly, similar to when he comes to help Harry in the Chamber of Secrets, maybe to kill Nagini.
