Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Chapter 12
A third of the way through! That’s a little sad.
Chapter 12: Magic Is Might
I love it when a plan comes together… even if it takes most of the chapter for it to come together and even if it starts to go wrong pretty early on. In the movie, most of chapter 12 will be a “scheming montage.” I like a good scheming montage. Ooh, I should rent “Sneakers” again.
The plan seems to be to take Polyjuice potion, sneak into Umbridge’s office, and steal the locket. Simple enough, if it weren’t for Ron’s unexpected detour, and running into the toad herself. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger mainly, I expect, due to page count.
The other news we learn is that Snape’s been made headmaster of Hogwarts. That’s a travesty, if ever there was one. I expect life is going to be very difficult at school this year.
Alas, I won’t get to find out what happens once Harry and Hermione get off the elevator until tomorrow, as Rachel’s gone off to sleep. I have, however, a bad feeling about this….
No spoilers for later chapters in the comments! You’ve done well so far.

We read FOUR chapters tonight!! I was tired!!
If Snape’s a good guy, having him as headmaster might ultimately be a good thing. I’m not saying he IS a good guy, but obviously that’s not entirely resolved yet. (Though as I was telling you the other day, I wonder whether Rowling is baffled by everyone’s insistence that it’s ambiguous. She might just be like, “People, he’s EVIL! That was the big reveal at the end of Book 6! He killed Dumbledore! How much clearer can I make it???”)
I can’t wait for the montage, scheming or otherwise. You know how I adore montages. I tear up at the Dunkin Donuts musical montage partway through ever Red Sox game.
Sneakers is great.
