Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Chapter 9
Looks like I’m not the only one doing chapter-by-chapter reviews. You’ll forgive me if I think mine are a little better.
Chapter 9: A Place To Hide
This book just does not let up, does it? Talk about pacing.
Hermione and her bag of holding are pretty much completely awesome here. We’ve been speculating as to how the Death Eaters were able to find them so quickly. Can the Ministry detect Apparition? If so, why weren’t they followed to Grimmauld Place? It can’t just be that they had Tottenham Court Road staked out. The more Rachel and I have been talking through the underage wizard Trace, the less we seem to understand it. This may be one of those things that was better left unexplained.
The fight in the cafe was an indication of how competent and effective our trio has become, even if Ron hasn’t really shone yet. Harry’s vision at the end of the chapter is really only interesting as a Draco character moment and, dammit, I still can’t quite feel sorry for the little bastard. Well, maybe a little.
No spoilers for later chapters in the comments! Obliviate!

Your reviews are way better!
Until I started reading this book, I hadn’t thought about how they couldn’t have brought Ginny on the quest with them (as I was hoping) because of the Trace.
Far too kind. Yes, the Trace does rule out Ginny, doesn’t it? I hope the gang ends up at Hogwarts so we can see how she’s getting on.
I agree. I’m afraid even Rowling doesn’t fully recognize Ginny’s awesomeness, and that she’s not going to get to see the action she deserves (and yes, I mean that in all senses).
