Chapter 22: The Deathly Hallows
Oh boy. Here we go again. I feel like we’ve been through this plot before: Harry has an all-consuming obsession which exasperates (at least) Hermione and is distracted from Dumbledore’s orders as a result. He’s a liiiiitle bit too certain that his Cloak is one of the Hallows, and jumps to certainly about Marvolo’s ring on incredibly weak evidence. Naturally, he entirely abandons the quest for the Horcruxes (although, in his defense, they have no leads). I have a sneaking suspicion that if Harry keeps up this preoccupation with the Hallows I’ll want to throw the book across the room. (Of course, he is the hero of the story, and his instincts are often right…. Damn, but I kinda hope he’s wrong. That would be more interesting.)
The Potterwatch radio show is cute, what with all the “R” code names and the old familiar faces. It’s very sad to hear that Tonks’s father is dead, and it’s infuriating that Harry’s Hallows-mania leads him to drop a V-bomb. This looks like trouble.

Babe, the Deathly Hallows thing is the TITLE OF THE BOOK. I think it may turn out to be somewhat important. And Dumbledore sure does seem to be trying to communicate something about it with his bequest to Hermione.
And yes, I loved Potterwatch. And I am just sick that Harry said Voldemort’s name — I woke up in the middle of the night last night (not for any HP-related reason) and got all anxious when my mind happened to drift to that cliffhanger. Stupid Harry!
Was it just me or did the names all of the Potterwatch commentators make sense, except for Fred’s and George’s (Rapier and Rodent)?
There are a number of flaws with the idea of Harry having the Hallows cloak. If it is impervious to magic, or whatever the story says, then how could Moody see through it or Dumbledore stupify Harry through it? Also, if the ring and cloak are Hallows, wouldn’t that mean that Harry and Voldemort are related?
I don’t know about Rapier, but Rodent = Weasley. It took me until the second read for that to make sense.

I thought of Moody’s eye, too. And, you’re right, I hadn’t thought of the fact that, if the ring and cloak are Hallows inherited from the Peverells, Harry and Voldemort are very distant cousins. But then, we’re told that practically all of the wizarding families are related.
Oh, and late last night, I had this idea:
Grindelwald stole something from Gregorovich: the Elder Wand, perhaps? And Grindelwald and Dumbledore were old friends… and we’ve never been told what kind of wand Dumbledore used… and Dumbledore is said to have defeated Grindelwald in a duel that may not, if we believe Rita Skeeter, have been all that dramatic. Is it possible that Grindelwald knew he couldn’t fight Dumbledore because the latter had the Elder Wand? Or, did Dumbledore take the Elder Wand from Grindelwald?
All this, of course, assuming that the Deathly Hallows are real. And yes, they are the title of the book, but it’s a little irritating to introduce a completely new mythology in the last book of the series.
