Before I rant, did you notice how the game seemed to have a certain inevitability to it? The Indians seemed flat all night when they had been dynamic the last 3 games. Carmona didn't show us much on Saturday, (though neither did Schilling) and can Westbrook shut down the Sox 2 starts in a row, what with his purple lips?
I'm sick of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Joe Buck is about to cry anytime... just anytime. He can barely contain his rage that the Red Sox are still in the playoffs. And Tim McCarver... He says at least 6 dumb things a game. When Beckett was cruising in the 6th, they started talking about how if he could get through the 7th then we might see Papelbon for the 8th and 9th even though they've told us about 26 times this post season that Papelbon has never had a 6 out save. Also, did you know that Ellsbury coming in as a defensive replacement in the 8th is a sure sign that he will be starting game 6 on Saturday? It's possible that he'll be starting, but the trust exhibited by putting him into left field in a 6 run game couldn't be considered a sure sign of that by any stretch of the imagination. Also, did you know Ellsbury's 116 at bats are a lot and can't be discounted and written off and are proof that Ellsbury is experienced enough to start? These are things I learned tonight.
I watched the first half of this game on mute and I was so much happier. God. I hate these guys.
