The thing about this is that the drama from Dawson's creek isn't really evident. There's drama, but it's not the focal point. Apparently, and unfortunately, if the writers' strike continues into January/February, this show will be done. Not sure if Season 2 will even get finished.

We're six episodes into season one, and we're liking it pretty well. We've been describing it as Dawson's Creek with football.

I'm totally fascinated by the fact that there are actual places where high school football is at the center of a community. My high school didn't even have a football team.

totally agree with the critics about the family. I love this show mostly for the dialogue between the husband and wife. It is awesome. I also love that you can't totally mock football while watching it - it does this great job of pointing out how football runs everything in a small town (much like small towns all over Texas and OK), pointing out all the negatives associated with that fact, and then still gets me excited about the game. I fall right into the inspirational talks and aw shucks mentality. So good.
