Everyone linked to this long excerpt from David Carr’s new book and I was going to read it, but not link to it, until reading this article in New York Magazine. The article says Carr’s “voice bears a relation to the dialogue in Deadwood, this mixture of grotesque profanity and quasi-Shakespearean orotundity. And then there’s all this really weird custom-made slang.” A “mixture of grotesque profanity and quasi-Shakespearean orotundity” is the very best description of the dialogue on Deadwood, isn’t it?
