Entourage Season 5

Season 5 already? I like this show, and you will too if you enjoy fantastical adventures of a Hollywood star and his gang, filled with camaraderie and bonhomie. My wife asked why I like Entourage and the explanation is it's the best example of friends ripping on each other on TV.

Steven Johnson’s Auspicious Start To Guest Blogging

On January 14th, Steven Johnson was celebrating the release of his newest book, The Invention of Air by blogging for a couple weeks on Boing Boing. One of his first posts, was about how safe air travel in the US had become and that a child had a better chance of being elected President than dying in a plane crash.

25 hours later, while BoingBoing commenters were debating the veracity of this claim, US Air Flight 1549 landed in the Hudson. Johnson quickly vowed not to talk about aviation safety anymore.

In somewhat related news, US Air won't charge travelers for their tickets.

Speaking of Billy Mays

The World’s First Facebook Film

Hope you're getting excited, The Aaron Cohens are coming.

Shepard Fairey Is All Over My (Internet) TV

What do you need cable for anymore when you can get programs about stuff you want to see so easily on the internet? Sports. That's what. (I was just looking to see if the Superbowl is being streamed this year, but couldn't find any reliable results.)

Also, you know what? I don't care that the Shepard Fairey backlash is in full swing, I'm still going to the Supply & Demand show at the ICA, and you should to. Let me know how much of a hack or farce or fake or fraud or rip off he is in the comments, I'll be at the museum.

Inauguration Fireworks or Missle Defense

Watch the positive Tweets come in in the days surrounding the Inauguration - it gets crazy around 9 AM Tuesday morning.

TakHomaSak

Roger Ebert is right: Steak 'n Shake is the best fast food, period.

Bob Dylan, William Zantzinger, and David Simon

In something of an obituary, the creator of The Wire tells the story of William Zantzinger. Zantzinger caused the death of a Baltimore waitress in 1963 inspiring Bob Dylan to write 'The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll.'
Zantzinger lived long enough to see Martin Luther King, Jr., honored with a national holiday and to know that this week Barack Obama would be inaugurated as President. We can imagine him galled at this outcome, a small-minded racist rightly defined by his ugliest moment. Perhaps that’s him, or perhaps he was more than that. At any rate, he knew his part and he played it to the end.

‘Arrested Development’ Movie Jeopardy!?!!

TVtattle tells me that Michael Cera may or may not be the lone holdout, but there is no doubt I will continue to report breathlessly.

Chuck Klosterman Blog

Since my favorite authors refuse to have blogs of their own, I will do it for them. Here's an article by Chuck Klosterman about Obama's brother-in-law Craig Robinson a college basketball coach in Oregon. The famous campaign story of Michele making (NBA alumni) Craig let Obama play basketball with him and his friends is retold and analyzed from a different light.

Here's Klosterman on The B.S. Report podcast. Haven't listened yet, but I imagine it will be good.

And you know what else? Someone needs to come up with an Alltop channel that features all the articles by all the good authors who refuse to have blogs. I'm thinking Michael Lewis, Michael Pollan, Klosterman, maybe Susan Orlean if it's about origami or orchids, maybe Krakauer, Gladwell because he never updates his site. There's others. Who am I missing?
