More Bikers Means Safer Bikers Part 2
Following up on More Bikers Means Safer Bikers from last month, Kottke points to this chart that shows that, although the number of bikers in NYC has exploded over the last couple years, the number of bike-related casualties has decreased. Would love to see this chart for Boston/Cambridge.

Here’s the key though, is it more bikers, or less cars?
P.S. Chart link is fubared…
I think it’s probably a combination of both, but the more bikes are easier to notice. Then again, I linked to something a few weeks back that talked about how a few less cars on the road reduced trafficly dramatically.
Fixed the link, thanks!
Agreed, more bikers means more visibility means safety in numbers. Also wonder if a lot more of those car drivers picked up a bike lately and it led them to watch out for bikers or be a bit more patient when they’re driving. Just seems like biking is exploding the past few months/year and I get honked at a little bit less.
