Carly Simon Sells Out…
...And reveals the inspiration for "You're So Vain". Although she had kept the secret for THIRTY EIGHT FREAKING YEARS, Simon has a new album to sell, and thus recorded a new version of the song with the reveal whispered in reverse at the end. I suppose once Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" was used to sell AT&T, Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" was used to sell cruises, and The Beatles sold all of their songs to sell everything, there wasn't any reason to keep it a secret anymore.

Carly only mentions the name David in the song, along with a couple of other names during the course of the newly recorded version of You’re So Vain from her new album NEVER BEEN GONE. The British tabloids made a grossly inaccurate assumption she meant David Geffen.
Regardless of who the song is about, sparking debate about it by saying ANY name on a remake of the song featured on a new album is a desperate play for attention and smacks of crass commercialism. That is what I was responding to. I think that’s fine, actually, just be honest about it.
