Fan catches foul ball while holding kid

Fans catching foul balls are awesome. Fans catching foul balls while holding children are even more awesome. It happens more often than you think, even if MLB doesn't want you to see any unauthorized video showing this.
Here are a few I found in a quick Google search:
With the baby strapped to chest.
On a bounce back.
Moms can do it, too.
With a few bobbles.
One handed.
Another one handed.
This guy didn't drop the kid, and the kid didn't drop the drink!

This post was inspired by a Mike Davidson Tweet that pointed to a guy at a recent Dodger's game who dropped his kid to catch a foul and then muffed the catch.

Biking!

I saw the new Danny MacAskill in Capetown video and figured everyone would have seen it. It's been out a couple hours already, right? Anyway, that's linked above, watch it. And then watch this.

Is college too expensive?

"I can see someone borrowing perhaps $10,000 a year if they're majoring in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computer science or nursing," says Kantrowitz. "But I can't see borrowing that amount of money for a degree in art, or humanities, or sociology, because the jobs just don't pay as well for those fields of study."

The problem with this line of thinking is that there aren't many liberal arts professions that you could even get an interview for without having gone to college. Not sure how that's not clear to this guy, but it's true.

What would you take from your burning house?

The Burning House is a Tumblr asking people what they'd take out of their burning house.

If your house was burning, what would you take with you? It's a conflict between what's practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question.

The photos of future-rescued items are poignant and haunting in a way, possibly mostly because the early submissions are from photographers and designers... I've definitely spent a lot of time thinking about what I'd take from my burning house, and it's mostly "grab the cat". Of course I don't have a good back up for my computer, so I'd want to grab that, and hell, why not, the hard drives. Looking through 4 pages of The Burning House, there's only one cat, which means people were being artsy instead of serious or they don't have cats.

I actually went through The Burning House experience about 10 years ago (a story which I still really need to put on here because it's awesome). I brought my computer and NOTHING else, not even the charger.

Cosby Show Serendipity

I love it when stuff like this happens.

Origin of ‘smart aleck’

I looked up the spelling of 'smart aleck' recently, saw it ended with a 'k', wondered where that came from. Incidentally, both aleck and alec are accepted. Google found this:

According to G.L. Cohen, author of Studies in Slang Part 1 (1985), the phrase smart alec(k) arose from the exploits of one Alec Hoag. A celebrated pimp, thief, and confidence man operating out of New York City in the 1840's, Mr. Hoag, along with his wife Melinda and an accomplice known as "French Jack," operated a con called the "panel game," a method by which prostitutes and their pimps robbed foolish customers.

Rating Judd Appatow’s movies

Nerve listed listed Judd Appatow's in order of how good they were and I wasn't sure I agreed so I made my own list. Some of Appatow's movies are REALLY good. Others are REALLY bad.

3. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
2. Knocked Up (2007)

Here's my list annotated with notes and Nerve's original rating:

15. Drillbit Taylor (2008) I don't think I saw this one.
4. Bridesmaids (2011) I definitely didn't see this one, but the previews look funnier than Drillbit Taylor.
10. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) I wish I liked this one more, but couldn't even finish it.
13. Year One (2009) I didn't realize this was Appatow, but I finished it.
14. Step Brothers (2008) Barely finished.
11. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) Some chuckles.
8. The Cable Guy (1996) This was a long time ago.
9. Pineapple Express (2008) There's a big chasm between 9 and 8 on this list.
7. Funny People (2009) Poignant. It was better than it looked.
12. Get Him to the Greek (2010) Lots of laughs.
6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) Rewatchable.
5. Superbad (2007) Lots of laughs AND rewatchable.
1. The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) I mean, come on.
2. Knocked Up (2007) I'm approaching having seen this one too often.
3. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) Masterpiece.

Tom Haverford’s Investment Ideas

Tom Haverford told us all about some of his investments tonight. They were, "the best investment ideas I've ever head in my life."

Make-A-Baby Tuxedo clothing line.
A department store with a guest list.
White fur ear muffs for men.
Contact lenses that display text messages.
Invent a phone that smells good.
Own a nightclub, call it Eclipse, that's only open for one hour two times a year. Cover charge? Five THOUSAND dollars.

Update: Some people I'm married to think that the first idea is to "make a baby tuxedo clothing line" not make a clothing line called "Make-A-Baby". This is valid criticism, but they're both funny.
