Every movie that Jason Stratham is in is the same (you could say the same for every Guy Ritchie movie, too). This was fun, but not very original. Danny McBride's character slays as an invincible and disloyal associate. Aside from the usual, 'If you've seen one Woody Allen movie...' this move also had the, 'If you've seen one movie about a crazy love triangle' thing. As far as movies with the word Barcelona in the title, I like Barcelona better than Vicky Cristina Barcelona. On the other hand, this one was much prettier to watch.

You know what you're getting when you watch a movie like this. It wasn't spectacular, but it was watchable, enjoyable even, in a Spy Games kind of way. True Blood was exciting and creative for the first 8 or 9 episodes until it turned into Vampire Veronica Mars. For some reason, I didn't pick up on the fact that the murders were the overarching theme of the show until it was too late. And then I just got mad because I learned to despise Veronica Mars something fierce.

I'm not going to review a Will Smith movie without noting my affection for him, so get that out of your head, but this was a dud. If you've seen Memento and any movie where someone is trying to do something to repent for something, you don't really need to see Seven Pounds. If this movie was starring anyone else, it would be one star less.

Lots of people don't like this movie, but it's Coen Brothers, and I can't help feeling that it was at least average. I think the people who don't like it have forgotten what a Coen Brothers movie is. When my dad visits, he can always be counted on to leave behind some hyper-masculine paperback trash (what's the counterpart of chick-lit, will "dude-lit" work?). The Reacher series can be summed up as the continuing adventures of an unbelievable bad-ass who goes around doing bad-ass things for, essentially, the sake of pure bad-assery. The writing isn't spectacular, and the plots aren't realistic, but there are worse ways to spend a few hours.

Shouldn't Cameron Diaz have a better career than doing crappy movies like this? Shouldn't Ashton Kutcher be doing better movies than this, too? We realized half way though the season that this is much better on the radio. I don't know that the video adds much, and certainly not in half an hour. Sarah Jessica Parker is horrible in practically everything, but she didn't ruin this one and Dennis Quaid was a successfully awkward professor. Smart People is worth watching and for some reason didn't get the attention it deserved. Not as good as Casino Royale, but I like the direction they're taking the Bond Franchise. It's going away from the cheesy, smug, goofiness of the Brosnon era and into a Bond/Bourne matrix that me likey. The Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
A very well-written and clear explanation of the major topics in relativity, quantum mechanics, and cosmology. It gets considerably less persuasive when the author starts in on string theory; Greene is a string theory proponent, but even his enthusiastic and partisan description of the theory seems pretty speculative. "Yes, there's no experimental evidence, but it's SO COOL" is a big change from the book's earlier sections, and pretty weak to boot.

It took me forever to watch Lost Season 4, but I'm glad I eventually got to it. Slow at the beginning of the season and then ending with the second excellent season finale in a row, Season 4 was worth it. Obviously, like everything else these days it would be better to watch all at once.

What do you say about a movie that's about America's use of torture? Rendition was good, though there weren't really any surprises. Remember 17 years ago (Christ, has it been that long?) when Robin Hood came out and did the 'follow an arrow in flight' camera trick a couple times? From there to Wanted curving the path of bullets over and over again. This movie should have been better, but it wasn't unwatchable.

Winning an Oscar for 'Longest Movie Title' (bet that joke's been made somewhere already), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford felt like 2 hours of set up to get to the half hour of movie at the end. Casey Affleck was good as the Coward and the movie was plodding. Not plodding in a bad way, but plodding nonetheless.
